Monash Circle K Club managed to hold the Charter-cum-Installation Night yesterday night. Thanks to all for your help, support, emceeing and performing and thanks for coming for the event. I hope you enjoyed yourselves last night. Photos will be uploaded soon in photobucket.

The objectives of organizing the above event are:

• To promote unity and team building between the Board of Directors and Circle K Club members.
• To strengthen fellowship among the Board of Directors and Circle K Club members.
• To develop and enhance their organizational, management and leadership skills whilst preparing for this event.
• To install the new Board of Directors and members into Circle K Club.
• To raise funds for upcoming activities and the underprivileged children.

Weather Situation

A deep low pressure system over the Southern Ocean is generating a strong west to northwesterly airflow across Victoria. A vigorous cold front will move into western districts this afternoon, reach central districts in the evening and pass over eastern Victoria early Wednesday.

Damaging winds averaging 60 km/h with peak gusts around 110 km/h are forecast for the Wimmera, Western and Alpine Areas forecast districts and parts of the North Central, Northern Country, Mallee, Central, West and South Gippsland, East Gippsland and Northeast forecast districts. Winds have temporarily eased but should strengthen again this afternoon from the west. Damaging wind gusts are more likely about elevated areas.

Higher wind gusts were recorded earlier this morning.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

• People should not park or shelter under trees.
• Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
• For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Tuesday.

This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureau’s website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300-659-217*.

The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.

• encourage and attract high quality students interested in pursuing a career in research and/or academia.

Recipients partake in research-related activities in the department offering the scholarship, and will be matched to a specific project, which will run over either the winter or summer break. Applications are invited from undergraduates interested in furthering their studies via an honours program, or who are considering a career in research for the primary purpose of furthering their education.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

• an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
• an international student, and
• enrolled as a full-time* undergraduate student at an Australian Higher Education provider, and
• normally have completed at least the second year of an undergraduate degree, and
• not an employee of Monash University.

* Students must be enrolled full-time in the semester preceding and the semester following the vacation scholarship.

Selection criteria

Awarded to the highest achieving students based on grade average. Applicants will be matched to projects available, and must also have completed any pre-requisite units specified for the project.

Note: Students interested in vacation scholarships in the Faculty of Engineering must be in their penultimate year and have a minimum of a high distinction weighted average mark (80 per cent).

Value and number available

Variable, depending on the faculty and the available funding.
